As dentists, we see patients, you know, bi-annually. And we can see early signs and symptoms of sleep apnea. So sleep apnea is where a patient stops breathing at night. It can be mild. It can be severe. I've had patients that actually stopped breathing up to 100 times an hour, and that would be as severe as it gets. People who have sleep apnea have a 30% increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular issues.
And so it's important to manage that sleep apnea. It's important to diagnose that sleep apnea for the patient. We can truly save that patient from having some traumatic medical emergency.
Different options for treatment with sleep apnea, either a CPAP or an oral sleep appliance that's made by your dentist. You know, I tend to direct my patients to use some sort of medical appliance there that'll help them with their sleep.
